Abbey takes the trophy for the 2nd year running

After dominating the top spot in the Mid-Kent Archery League (MKAL) for the majority of the season, the trophy came down to the last match of the season and a close call between Abbey and Fox. In the end, Abbey won the league by just 30 points after a spirited effort by many of the newer members.

It was a great day with an impressive turnout for Abbey Bowmen. There was a jovial atmosphere and Crown Archers helped ensure the day was a fun and relaxing shoot. A number of archers from Abbey were taking part in their first competition shoot and based on their excellent performance we will be looking forward to seeing them on the shooting line next year.

Surprise win for Kate at Charity Shield

Sun tan lotion was the order of the day at the 2018 Stuart Attwood Charity Shield. The sun shone brightly on the archers competing to take home the trophy. The competition was a handicap based tournament with all competing archers requiring a handicap from previous shoots to compete.

Everyone fought hard and the finishing handicap scores were all quite close, but the runaway winner was Kate who thrashed her personal best to attain a handicap score of 1507 much to her own surprise. Joe won the junior trophy with an equally respectable score of 1411.

The shoot is held every year and everyone who enters pays a fee which is given to a choice charity. This year the money raised will be given to Cancer Research UK towards the excellent work they do. A big thank you to all the club members who took part and helped raise over a £100 – and thanks to Matt the chef who ensured that all the archers were fed at the end of the shoot.

Abbey keep momentum with WIN against Allington

The second match of the year against Allington Castle Archers held at Abbey went very well for the home team. With good weather, bright blue skies and a win from the first match to spur them on, the Abbey team shot exceedingly well to secure another win.

It was a closely fought match with Allington scoring a handicap score of 5794, but Abbey dug deep and pulled it out of the bag with an immpressive 6031.

The win puts Abbey at the top of the table going into the halfway point next month and the team should be very proud of themselves for putting in the effort.  Special mentions to the newer members who are  supporting the team with their enthusiasm and fighting spirit and proving they can compete in the Mid-Kent League with valuable contributions.

Extra congratulations go to Adrian who is currently holding the top score for gents barebow.
