Surprise win for Kate at Charity Shield

Sun tan lotion was the order of the day at the 2018 Stuart Attwood Charity Shield. The sun shone brightly on the archers competing to take home the trophy. The competition was a handicap based tournament with all competing archers requiring a handicap from previous shoots to compete.

Everyone fought hard and the finishing handicap scores were all quite close, but the runaway winner was Kate who thrashed her personal best to attain a handicap score of 1507 much to her own surprise. Joe won the junior trophy with an equally respectable score of 1411.

The shoot is held every year and everyone who enters pays a fee which is given to a choice charity. This year the money raised will be given to Cancer Research UK towards the excellent work they do. A big thank you to all the club members who took part and helped raise over a £100 – and thanks to Matt the chef who ensured that all the archers were fed at the end of the shoot.

Frostbite Final Results 2018

It was a hard fought tournament this year, through some absolutely awful weather, and some excellent performances, especially from the newest of our members.  Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to everyone who took part, as without your participation there would not be a tournament.  Your commitment to turn up week on week, through rain, sleet and snow ensures that there is a friendly rivalry that pushes each of us to better ourselves.  The end of March and therefore the final results for the ‘Frostbite 2017/2018’ tournament are shown below.

Abbey Darts Check-out Tournament

The annual Abbey Bowmen Darts Check-out tournament took place on Sunday 18th February 2018 with 15 archers from 3 disciplines vying to win the coveted Champion cup.  A game of some skill and a lot of luck, this competition allows beginners to compete on an even keel with the more experienced archers.

The music played Irish jig to give the real pub atmosphere and the only thing missing was the alacohol! A jovial but competitive spirit ensured a fun competition, which saw a perfect 180, a rather impressive triple treble 1 and everything in between.  In the end the victors walked away with the cups, but unlike a real pub the losers did not have to nurse a sore head the following day.

Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to everyone who took part. These tournaments would not be as much fun without your participation.
